Hi, this is the first chapter of a story I wrote. I will be posting a few chapters every week. Hope you like it!
Chapter one
Palm trees swayed in the light breeze of spring. The sky was clear, no clouds in sight. Lynxie Pine biked harder, wishing everyday could be like this day. But no matter how hard she wished, the spring couldn’t last for eternity.
Summers in Hilton Head, South Carolina were hot. Very hot. You probably would do less things out in the sun, confined to the cramped, suffocating indoors. And the worst of it? Lynxie’s skin was extremely fair, so she could only go outside on cool days to avoid getting the terrible burns she got otherwise.
Lynxie biked harder and harder, passing by houses, buses, and beautiful palm trees. The wind streamed through her hair as Sea Pines blurred around her. It was calming, breathtaking, magical. Then she approached a small hill. What was below the hill? The most busy street in the city. She frantically squeezed her handbrakes. The wheels screeched loudly as her bike slowed. But it wasn’t enough. She screamed as she and her bike went sailing over the edge.
“Help!” She yelled, hoping anyone, anyone would…
Her bike suddenly swerved and crashed into a pine tree. She fell off just in time to stop her bike from falling on top of her. She got up, still holding onto the bike, and put up the kickstand. She looked around. She had biked north, so she most likely was in Hilvil Park, about seven miles away from her small house in Sea Pines.
“I didn’t notice that I biked into the park.”
“I did.” A small, squeaky voice said.
Of all the flavors of ice cream, strawberry as her favorite, strawberry, with a strawberry white chocolate spoon. If ice cream could talk, if strawberry ice cream could talk, that’s what she had imagined it would sound like.
“Are you talking ice cream?” Lynxie blurted out before she could stop herself.
“Of course not.” The thing sounded offended.
“Umm, I mean of course you’re not talking ice cream, you’re…”
“A Koalacrea, of course.” The little creature stared at her with wide eyes.
“And what might you be, o great giant of Palm City?” “A what?” Lynxie asked, confused.
“It’s what we call you guys.”
“What do you mean by us?” The Koalacrea ignored her and said,
“It’s 5:30.”
Lynxie looked up at the creature.
“Why does that matter?” She moved away from the sun to get a better look at the creature and gasped.
It was so much cuter than she’d thought.
“It takes 1 hr 42 min to get back to Sea Pines. You don’t know the way. But I do. I’ll take you back, if you’ll let me take shelter in your home of wood.”
The girl looked around, frightened. She didn’t know where she was. She didn’t know how to get home. She had made a large scientific discovery that would take her back home in exchange for shelter in her house. What should she do?
“Fine then, giant,” the Koalacrea said angrily. “I’ll sweeten the deal. If you agree to my request, I’ll take you home and give you this magical bracelet.”
The creature held out a gold bracelet studded with diamonds, pearls, moonstones, and aquamarines. In the very middle of the bracelet, there was a large emerald.
“I’m not a giant!” Lynxie screamed in the Koalacrea’s face. She softened her voice a little.
“Listen whatever you are. Take me home, and then I’ll accept your offer.”
The Koalacrea looked at her and said, “Call me Violet.”
Violet cleared her throat and said, “Have you ever flown?”
